“Hikari no Kyoto” began with the idea of illuminating the city and people of Kyoto with “lights of hope.”
This year, the second edition of the festival, will be presented with even more brilliance.

Surely there are many this year who will say, “I couldn’t wait for autumn.”That’s how autumn should be.
One could go on forever about autumn in Kyoto. Indeed, it is in this city with its 1,200-year history where the emergence of the autumn leaves brings so many stories with them. For example, Takao and Toganoo are located less than an hour northwest of the Kyoto city center by bus, and offer a beautiful scenic contrast with the deep greenery of Kitayama cedars and clear streams. You may notice the Japanese design of turning nature into a single painting, or, in the presence of the diverse and magnificent natural environment, you may be touched by anecdotes of the great genius Kukai. You are sure to find “autumn leaves” that feel close to your heart this year.
